Support for Prahran Park Basketball Court

Here we are doing something we should have done many years ago. We are finally doing an official Support Prahran Park petition. As we all know not much has happened for the basketball court at the Princes Gardens (Prahran, Melbourne) since the upgrade announcement last year, and we all, as one, can do something about it.

We, the basketball community, have approached the council since the start of 2004 and still have not received the involvement we need. We understand that the court is on the way to an upgrade, but we are yet to be involved and express what the court and the community needs.

We want the most encouraging, safest, and best quality basketball rings and backboards available. (if money is an issue we can raise it!) A supplier whom we recommend for best quality, safety, and most encouraging facility due to professionalism of product.

We want the court dimensions to be the legitimate size which will prevent injuries due to small space, and most of all, professionalism, and preparation for those who wish to excel in the sport.

We want a professional cushioned (flexi-base) surface to help prevent injury and prevent future potential arthritic conditions or joint damage due to hard surfaces.

We want lights at the court to allow people the opportunity to do something positive and recreational while the sun is down. What other options do young people have? Drinking, drug taking, criminal activities, vandalism, partying, indulging in excessive time on non-productive activities? There are people a block away legally partying, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, and staying up all hours of the night with the loudest sounds from clubs and pubs, but yet the basketball court lights are kept off because it has been said to be too loud? The only noise at the court would be the sound of a basketball bouncing and people coming together with positive intentions.

Give us, the basketball community, the opportunity to be heard, listened to and be involved in community projects that involve us.

We want to be involved in the growth of creating positive activities in our communities, because we are the community.

Even if your not from Melbourne, Prahran, or Victoria, if you believe in this proposition on behalf of the basketball community, your input and support will have an impact on the game. If we can set the example with Prahran Park, then your local community could soon follow, by seeing the positive impact and success Prahran Park would achieve...

The Prahran Park Support Day will be held at Prahran Park on Saturday September 9th at 1pm (Melbourne, Australia - melway page: 58 E5). There will be a BBQ, well-known DJ's and music, games running all day, NBL player appearances and a variety of competitions. Be a part the official Prahran Park Support photo at the court... This petition will continue for as long as it takes.

Lets prove together that this is what we want and need for our community. Prahran Park can be a place where we together can play and live in harmony. It's going to be a great day to be a part of. We look forward to seeing everybody there!
