To be submitted to the Norwalk Board of Estimate and Taxation at the Public Hearing on March 24, 2010, 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The Norwalk Public Schools Board of Education has proposed a budget for 2010-2011 requesting a 3.4\% increase to maintain current staffing and programs. This budget request follows two years of budget cuts. On February 23, the Common Council set a budget cap which would impose a 0\% increasea reduction of 5.1 million to the proposed budget. We know that these are difficult times economically, and we support the efforts of the schools and the Board of Education to continue to pursue cost-saving measures. We are concerned that this reduction (0\% increase) of 5.1 million will have a dramatic and negative impact on our schools at a time when we need to support our schools and provide our new superintendent with financial resources to move forward.

We, the undersigned, request that the Board of Estimate and Taxation revise, reduce, or eliminate the amount of this reduction of 5.1 million in order to moderate the impact on our schools and our community.
