On April 25, 2006 our Friend Rick Braun was killed on his motorcycle when a northbound van on Lafayette Hwy crossed the southbound lanes to make a sweeping left hand turn. Rick was traveling below the speed limit when the van hit him head on in his lane. This intersection where Rick lost his life, Lafayette Hwy and Springtown Road in McMinnville, Oregon, is very dangerous. We held a rally at the site of the accident to raise awareness and start a petition. Now we are looking for more signatures here online to T-UP this intersection, removing this sweeping curve, so no one else gets killed there.
There are no Yield signs at this intersection from any direction. There is a banked sweeping curve allowing people to intersect from Lafayette Hwy and Springtown Rd. without braking or slowing down. This sweeping curve is south of the existing T intersection.
This road has had other fatalities and we don't want to see anymore. We have had input from people who live in the area and who drive Lafayette Hwy everyday, sharing with us stories of close calls and their fear of driving that section of Hwy.
Rick Braun was more then a friend. He was a Husband of 28 years, a Father, a Grandfather, a Son, a Brother, an Uncle. He will be missed by all.
We, the citizens of the State of Oregon, Petition the state to T-UP the intersection of Lafayette Hwy and Springtown Road in McMinnville, Oregon. Traffic has become too heavy to safely allow Northbound traffic to yield properly against Southbound traffic, causing the fatal accident that took Rick Braun's life on April 25th, 2006. Let's make a change and save a life. Don't let your friends die there!!
