The state of Texas will be passing a law regarding the legal age of young drivers. The regular permitted age of driving is getting your permit after drivers education at 15 and at 16 get your drivers license. The new law states that if a teenager does not turn 15 by January 1st 2002 then he/she cannot receive their driver license until they turn 18. Students will also not be able to receive their permit if they do not turn 15 by the end of the year 2001.
Now for why I am against this law, and I am not the only one. Average students these days work to earn money for college tuition. Being capable of a job shows responsibility and makes teenagers feel independent. The local transportation system in the Dallas Fort Worth area consist of call-a-cabs, rental cars, and bus transportation. If the law indicating in the paragraph above is passed then students not able to drive will have no way of getting to their jobs except for the listed transportation system. Do students really need to call a high priced cab, or a bus that does not really arrive until every hour causing the young teenager to be late for their job, and are teenagers expected to rent a car just to get to their job. Motorcycles are legal for young teenagers but the safety rate is worse than driving a automobile. This petition is to persuade the Texas law to not pass the indicating law and keep the legal age of receiving a license to drive at 16.

i think it's a good choice to keep the driving age 16. teensagers get better learing and learn from driving mistakes. plus people say teenagers drink and drive , adults do as well . but i agree it should stay 16 .
