The Chagossians people right to return to their homeland

Dear Tony Blair:

We are writing to you in regard to the plight of the Chagossians and their right to return to their homeland. These individuals have been residing in the Chago islands for many generations. What I find quite disturbing is the manipulation and forced eviction that lead to the United States setting up a Naval base [Diego Garcia]. We are aware that this situation has not been resolved and continues to be ongoing. And, I am concerned that these individuals became displaced and experienced distress due to no fault of their own; but due to the political attentions at the time. We asked you now: Is this the appropriate time for us (i.e. west) to value people more rather than create disharmony whilst enabling the U.S. to operate and maintain a strategic outdated military facility?
