This petition is a statement in support of ESCApe Artists' plan to redevelop Wilkie House into a comprehensive, vibrant and accessible arts venue in heart of Edinburgh's Old Town.
We believe that to sell the building to a large commercial enterprise, who will merely transform it into another boring bar/club, would be a travesty.
Edinburgh does not need any more bars owned by the same conglomerates and designed in the same tedious fashion, appealing to the same demographic.
What Edinburgh sorely lacks is an exciting, permanent, arts venue. ESCApe Artist will turn Wilkie House into the most diverse and dynamic venue in the capital - a venue that will give the whole city a chance to see and produce fantastic new works of theatre, visual art, film and music.
We insist that come decision day, the owners must not bow to financial pressures but must instead let ESCApe Artist's ethical, cultural and community based redevelopment go ahead.
This cultural David must triumph over the corporate Goliath!

Edinburgh has more than enough bars, clubs and restaurants. What we need more than anything is an arts venue which favours community over commercialism, right in the heart of town.

Edinburgh desperatly needs an arts venue that is willing to support its thriving underground community, as a performance artist, the only venues that I am able to approach exist mainly in Glasgow. I feel there is a huge gap in the Edinburgh arts community
