I am a big fan of your music. On the Put Out Your Lights Tour, I saw you three times -- one time skipping a day of University classes and spending grocery money on Greyhound Fare and concert tickets. I do this happily, because I rather enjoy going to your shows and seeing you perform.
However, I am kind of sick of hearing Hello Time Bomb. Don't get me wrong -- it's a good song and it's enjoyable, but part of the fun of seeing a musician with as deep and thorough a history as yourself is wondering with a sense of excitement what is going to be played. For example, at Oliver's in Ottawa in 2002, a group of friends and I collectively desecrated our pants upon hearing a MGB classic -- Generation X-Wing. Hearing The Future Is X-Rated and Carmelina on the most recent tour was a similar treat.
I wouldn't mind if you continued to play Hello Time Bomb, but this tour seems small and is not promoting anything in particular, so it would be safe to assume attendance will be made up almost entirely of hard core fans who have probably seen you play it a billion times. In your recent blog, you stated "I think the list of songs were going over tops out at around 45 or 50", which tremendously piques my interest. As I had personally finalized plans to attend to St. Catherine's show on the 14th of July just 24 hours prior to this blog entry, I am very excited at the potentiality of this show. I am, however, reminded of a similar post prior to your last tour, where you stated a similar fact in an online entry.
Don't get me wrong -- I would still be GLAD to see you play Load Me Up, Hello Time Bomb, Weapon, etc. etc. again and again. But, as a relatively hardcore fan, I would be tremendously interested in hearing other rarely played and under appreciated songs. I specifically advocate I Miss New Wave, or if you need a rocking, up beat song, how about The Fall Of Man? So Long Mrs. Smith, or The Fine Art of Falling Apart would be excellent additions to your solo/acoustic encores. Another excellent set closer would be Born To Kill -- the first time I heard that song, it was full blast on my DiscMan and I thought I had gone deaf -- it was brilliant.
As one of the long term, hardcore fans of your music, I ask of you -- I IMPLORE you, to please, please, please, please play as many of those 40-50 tracks that are not often played, or have been sitting on the shelf for years in favour of the radio hits that we have all heard to death and back again, thrice. What I wouldn't give for Advertising on Police Cars!
I, Jason Moore, and the Undersigned sincerely hope you do treat this mini-tour as a Fan Tour, and bestow upon us a seemingly endless plethora of adoringly missed and mistakenly forgotten tunes.
We thank you, regardless, for bringing us wonderful music.
