This is a petition to be sent to the executives at Warner Bros. Television to revive their series, "The Oblongs" for a second season. Due to the declining quality of comical cartoons these days, the revival is needed now more than ever. "The Oblongs" had smart, witty commentary and viable plotlines. Today's comedic cartoons (most notably "Family Guy") rely too much on random acts of violence, gross-out gags or pop culture references to popular 80s or 70s programs. "The Oblongs" took the sitcom stereotype and turned it upside-down by brilliantly depicting the cast in an unfamiliar setting with comical overtones towards America's dysfunctional capitalistic system as well as being a mentally or physically disabled citizen within such a system. The dialogue was sharp and the characters were not only comedic commentators on American lifestyles but also self-parodied themselves as well. While the series departed from the original material created by Angus Oblong, the comedic timing and punchlines were enough to show it had potential. Why should a great cartoon series such as this wither away while unimaginative "sitcoms" such as "Family Guy" pilfer the genre and lower the standards? Please, revive "The Oblongs" not just for the devoted fanbase, but for the sake of maintaining the dignity of a television genre.
