To the Elected State Representatives of Michigan:

We the undersigned request that in the year 2010, the year which the Michigan Constitution requires that Michigan citizens are given the opportunity to revise our constitution (Article XII, Section 3), that the Constitution is revised to declare our independence from the United States of America and to declare the newly formed Republic of Michigan.

Article I, Section 3 of the Michigan Constitution states that all political power is inherent in the people of Michigan. However, the federal economic and political system has taken this power from the people of Michigan. The power to make decisions for our communities is quickly being absorbed by the federal government.

The following list of grievances is a brief summary of the consequences of this shift in power:

a) Local businesses and workers are struggling due to unfair competition with outside sources, especially coming from major corporations.

b) Families are breaking. Families are forced to spend more time apart from each other just so they can bring food home and to pay energy bills. This separation is causing divides within families, and children are losing critical values, lessons, and role-models.

c) Citizens are less involved in their communities and government. With the federal and state powers exercising so much authority, citizens are recognizing that there is less that they can do to create change in their communities.

d) The educational system is broke. The funding is minimal. Michigan wants to restructure their entire educational system without any demands by the federal government.

e) Unemployment, poverty, and homelessness are excessive diseases that are destroying our communities. The federal economic and political system only helps to encourage this situation by dictating how we manage and distribute our resources.

An independent Michigan will put the power back into the hands of the citizens of Michigan. The Republic of Michigan will then be able to create solutions that benefit the people of Michigan. These benefits include:

1) The people of local communities making the decisions for the community.

2) An investment in science and technology that will create more jobs and opportunities to enhance the life of Michiganders.

3) An alteration of our educational system, which will include more emphasis on science, math, and technology.

4) A Michigan where most of the products and goods in circulation are locally grown and produced.

5) Control over all the beautiful, natural resources of our land.

6) A non-violent society with voluntary brigades formed when/if necessary to defend ourselves.

7) The eventual shift from a monetary-system to a resource-based system.

Once again, we request that in the year 2010 the people of Michigan are given their Constitutional right of deciding whether we should revise our Constitution in such a manner that declares our independence from the United States of America.
