Your Excellency:
We respectfully bring the following matter to your attention. On May 16, 2010, the laity of San Antonio was told that Fr. Donald Kloster would no longer have an assignment in the Archdiocese of San Antonio as of June, 2010. Fr. Kloster, who is currently a priest in good standing with Rome, is young, energetic, very devout, and a tireless worker. Furthermore, he was the only priest not of retirement age residing in the Archdiocese who had recent training and experience in offering the quite complicated sung form of the Missal of Bl. John XXIII. The loss of Fr. Kloster, whom many of us have entrusted with the spiritual guidance and direction of our souls, and that of our children and family members, has distressed the peace in our homes and our community. It does not seem clear to us that at a time when the Roman Catholic Church in general and the Archdiocese of San Antonio in particular are experiencing an obvious shortage of priests, especially young and vibrant ones, that Fr. Kloster would be dismissed with no need for his abilities.
In accordance with the Roman Catholic Churchs position on transparency, we, the laity, are respectfully asking your Excellency to provide us with an explanation of the decisions made regarding Fr. Kloster and the reasons for them. Alternatively, since we realize that the decisions regarding Fr. Kloster were made during a transitional period for the Archdiocese, we respectfully request that in the absence of any such explanations, Fr. Kloster be reinstated as a priest in the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
Yours in Christ,
