To Viacom and Whom It May Concern

On July 3, 2008 a story apeared on cnn.com. A story which truly disturbs me. A media company, Viacom, sued Youtube/Google for 1 BILLION dollars in the beginning of the year, and now they demand more. A Federal Judge also ruled that Youtube must hand over the information found in its USER'S acounts. This information Includes a users IP ADDRESS, PASSWORD, E-MAIL and even their NAME, along with every clip you've ever UPLOADED or WATCHED. Now this is a direct atack on not just our privacy and Youtube, but also net neutrality.

One thing makes little sense. The top ten most watched people on youtube have a combined amount of views that equal 70million+ and the top 20 breaks 100 million. Now it is very unlikely that people love viacoms shows so much that they are whatching a majority of their shows on youtube.

Now let's imagine what would happen if another media company like Sony did this, but instead of Youtube they infiltraded Limewire. While I do not use Limewire, many people still do. Now imagine if Sony could look up everything you downloaded on limewire. They could effectively sue you.

What Viacom plans on doing is not only wrong, but will set a legal precedent, which will allow many other companies to do this exact same thing in the future. This could mark the beginning of the end of net nutrality, which is the one thing that keeps the internet fun and free of any major control.

Now while This court order is probably not going to be overruled in an appeal process, there is still a way for Youtube/Google to annomynize the results; therefore, keeping our private information private.
