The decision by the British government to set up a five-week amnesty for knife-carriers who hand in their knives at police stations in Great Britain could be a public relations operation, a mere reaction to the media coverage of 15-year-old Kiyan Prince and 18-year-old Christopher Alaneme murders.
Knife crime is a real issue which needs to be tackled over a long period. Indeed, it is the most common method of killing.
Prevention is one thing. However, it has to be coupled with tougher sentencing which would act as a deterrent. Moreover, the families of the victims would obtain justice.
Therefore, the undersigned petition the government to add to its announced policy regarding knife-crime tougher sentencing for people who stab others.
