The Short ******* I petition Dish Network to allow the user/owner of involved equipment to be able to turn off this VOD (Video on Demand) service as he/she wishes. ********
The Long explanation, In summer of 2006 Dish Network Released a new VOD (Video on Demand) software upgrade on the Digital Video Recorder series of Receivers.
Dish Network customers can Own or Lease the equipment. I personally Own all of my equipment and do not wish to use this service.
This VOD software downloads onto your receiver and you cannot turn it off or disable it in any way. It causes your equipment to run ALL the time, creates additional wear and tear to the hard drive(s) and circuits, additional heat buildup which causes premature hardware failures. Uses additional electricity and produces some noise pollution to those who can hear the reciever turn on automatically, or cooling systems powering on and off. Since this now can cause my personally owned equipment to die prematurely and cause people to spend $ to repair or replace the equipment that is not under warranty I have decided to start this petition, Please join me in saving people money and headaches from Dish's need to make money on existing customers.
