"We the undersigned, deplore the decision of our negotiators to suspend action in order to put the employers current offer to ballot. We will be campaigning for a 'No vote' and call upon all members of UCU in the HE sector to do the same"
VOTE 'No'
FOR OURSELVES,
FOR OUR STUDENT SUPPORTERS,
FOR THE FUTURE OF HIGHER EDUCATION
We are campaigning for a 'No vote' because the offer:
- is virtually identical to the one of 30th May that was rightly rejected by our negotiators and branches up and down the country
- only amounts to 9.37\% cash value increase over the three years
- contains virtually no 'catch-up' element
- contains no guarantee of restitution of docked pay - just a vague assurance "issues will be resolved"
- gives institutions that plead poverty an eleven month get-out clause with no requirement for backdating
- of a review of University finances in the 3rd year is an imposture as by then every university will have tied the money up elsewhere in their budgets
Our arguments still stand:
- 3.4 billion extra income coming into universities over the next few years
- we believe we can still win a much better deal
- the dispute should be member led
- an emergency sector conference of branch representatives should be called ASAP to debate and decide upon a coordinated campaign of effective industrial action.
