UCU Call for an Emergency HE Sector Conference
Sign Now
We the undersigned members of UCU note the following:
1. The widespread unease in UCU as to the decision to suspend industrial action prior to the ballot on the current HE pay offer;
2. The current lack of transparency and accountability as to how the decision to suspend industrial action was arrived at;
3. The necessity for full democratic accountability within UCU especially on such an important issue, not least so lessons for the future may be discussed and learnt;
4. The urgent need for strategic preparation following the outcome of the pay ballot regardless of the ballot result;
We therefore demand that:
1. You use your powers under Transitional Rule 10.1 [UCU rules can be found at http://www.ucu.org.uk/media/pdf/s/6/ucurules.pdf] to call an early HE Sector Conference of branch-based delegates to discuss the lessons of our pay dispute and debate and decide what future tactics to adopt following the result of the pay ballot.
2. The HE Sector Conference should be called immediately after the results of the ballot on the current offer are announced. This timing will ensure that the experience and lessons of the current campaign will not have had time to fade and, should the offer be rejected, enable them to inform the development of the continuing campaign.
