We, the graduate students of the Foreign Languages and Literatures Department of the University of Delaware, petition the French and Spanish departments to officially change the dates of the French and Spanish Literature Comprehensive Exams from the middle of the semester to the end of the semester. End of semester comprehensive exams will allow us to complete the course of study on which we are being tested. Examiners will still have ample time to grade the exams if the oral portion is given no later that the "Reading Day" assigned to that particular semester. This change is one very plausible attempt to regulate the FLLT department policies concerning comprehensive exams, as they vary greatly among the languages of French, Spanish and German. We ask that you strongly consider our petition which we believe to be in the best interest of your graduate students, as well as the entire Foreign Languages and Literatures Department.
