Prin prezenta petitie, in calitate de studenti ai Facultatii de Stiinte Politice, solicitam deschiderea unei sesiuni extraordinare de alegere a cursurilor optionale pentru semestrul al doilea, pentru anii de studiu 3 si 4.

Dorim extinderea posibilitatii de a alege cursuri optionale din urmatoarele motive:

1. Este important ca alegerea cursurilor sa se faca pe baza unor informatii solide. De aceea studentii ar trebui sa aiba atat posibilitatea de a citi programa scolara, cat si de a interactiona personal cu profesorul, inainte de a opta pentru un anumit curs. Acest lucru nu s-a putut face in cazul profesorilor care sustin cursuri doar pe semestrul al doilea sau in cazul colegilor nostri care, fiind in stagiu ERASMUS nu au putut lua contact cu profesorii. De asemenea, exista cazuri in care, avand o experienta mai putin buna cu un anumit profesor, am dori sa nu mai sustinem un al doilea curs condus de acesta, sau dimpotriva, fiind multumiti de un anumit stil de predare am dori sa alegem un alt curs sustinut de acelasi un profesor

2. Oferta de educationala de pe semestrul al doilea s-a modificat odata cu anularea cursului de Psihologie Sociala sustinut de domnul Ion Cosmovici. Exista printre noi studenti care datorita anularii nu pot intruni numarul de credite obigatorii pentru a promova anul universitar.

3. In acest stadiu al ciclului universitar multi dintre noi sunt nevoiti sa se angajeze. Intrucat programul de studiu este important pentru noi si pentru ca dorim sa putem participa activ la cursuri, am vrea sa avem posibilitatea de a impleti viata profesionala cu cea academica si de a ne organiza programul in functie de aceste doua coordonate.

4. Exista mai multe precedente in care s-au desfasurat sesiuni extraordinare de alegere a cursurilor optionale. In ciuda regulamentului inscris pe site-ul facutatii, care prevede un singur interval de alegere a cursurilor in luna octombrie, in anii trecuti s-a oferit posibilitatea de a alege si in luna februarie. Din cauza situatiei din anii precedenti exista printre noi studenti care nu si-au ales niciun curs optional.

De aceea dorim deschiderea unei sesiuni extraordinare de alegere a cursurilor cat mai curand posibil la inceputul celui de-al doilea semestru din anul academic 2007-2008.

Credem ca educatia solida se bazeaza libertatea de a alege. Credem de asemena ca aceasta cerere este conforma cu spiritul in care se desfasoara educatia in institutia pe care o conduceti si care a oferit intotdeauna studentilor posibilitatea de a se forma, construindu- si personal programa pe care doresc sa o urmeze si care le satisface exigentele legate de cariera viitoare.

To the Dean of the Political Science Department, University of Bucharest

In our capacity as students of the Political Science Department, we request through the present petition, to be allowed to choose the courses for the present semester of the senior year (3rd and 4th year).

We would like to be granted an extension to choose our optional courses due to the following reasons:

1. It is important that the choice of a course be done based on solid information. That is why the students should not only have the possibility to read the courses' syllabuses but also to directly interact with the professor prior to choosing a certain course. This has not been the case for professors that hold their courses in the second semester only and for our colleagues that are only now returning from their ERASMUS exchange. There are also cases in which after having a less than positive experience with a certain professor, we would like to opt for a course that is not conducted by him/her. Also in the cases in which we appreciate very much the teaching style of one professor we would like to be able to choose another of his/her courses.

2. The course offer for the second semester was altered because the Educational Psychology course, held by Mr. Ion Cosmovici was canceled. Because of the cancellation, many of our colleagues cannot meet the required number of credits to promote the academic year.

3. At this stage of the university program, many of us had to find a job for various personal reasons. Because studying is equally important to us, and because we wish to be able to actively participate to classes, we request to be granted the possibility to combine both our academic and professional lives and to organize our schedules accordingly.

4. There are several precedents in which extraordinary course choosing sessions were permitted. In spite of the rules written also on the department website, that fix the exclusive course choosing dates in October, the possibility to opt for certain courses was also granted in February in the past years. Because of these precedents there are students among us who have not chosen any course for this semester.

We thus ask for the opening of an extraordinary course choosing session as soon as possible at the beginning of this second semester.

We believe that solid academic training is based on freedom of choice. We also trust that this petition is in accordance with the spirit in which education is carried out in the institution you lead, that has always allowed its students the possibility to shape their academic program according to the prerequisites of their future careers.
