We, as students, are greatly concerned about the value and quality of the education we receive and currently supplement via fees along with tuition dollars. The Ryan Center provides no educational contribution to the lives of University of Rhode Island students. The fees for the Ryan Center are proposed to increase from $176 in 2004-2005 to $256 for 2005-2006. This need for an increase is due to debt accrued by the managing company, Global Spectrum, which is not run by students and does not benefit students in their learning experience. We, the students of the University of Rhode Island, are appalled that we are being forced to pay back the debt that an outside company has created through a flawed business plan. Global Spectrum, not the students, is responsible for their portion of the debt service on the bond for the Ryan Center and therefore should be held accountable as any other business would.
