On September 7th 2016, the Early Learning Centre announced the permanent closure on December 1st 2016 of the Family Resource Centre (FRC), 7 Glenn Moris, Toronto.
The FRC is the only free drop-in centre in the Huron-Sussex neighborhood open to all community members. This closure has the following consequences for our community:
* Limits the options for young children to play in a safe and enriching environment,
* Deeply affects caregivers whose main mode of transportation is walking,
* Weakens the sense of community built among caregivers and friends in the area,
* Negates the commitment of the University of Toronto to their Faculty, staff and students to provide access to a drop-in centre, without restriction of residence.
We, the undersigned parents, caregivers and community members, kindly ask the University of Toronto and the Early Learning Centre to reconsider the closure of the FRC.
