Unjust Early Termination Fee

Do you have a cell phone with a contract that you either no longer can afford or your no longer interested in having the service? Maybe you are not satisfied with the cell phone service and wish to terminate the contract early; however, you are not able to terminate the contract early because of the expensive early termination fee cell phone companies charge their customers.
This is a problem many people have in common. Cell phone companies charge this expensive termination fee because by charging such an expensive fee will almost ensure that the customer will not terminate the contract early. For example, if John Doe loses his job and needs to cut back on expenses, he's likely to cut the things that he can do without first like a cell phone. Cell phone companies charge these outrageous early termination fees because they know that if John Doe loses his job tomorrow then most likely he won't be able to afford the remaining time on their lengthy contracts but, it is more then likely that John Doe won't be able to afford the expensive early termination fee the cell phone company will charge him. Charging these expensive early termination fees enables cell phone companies to lock in their customers with these lengthy contracts that either the customer no longer wants or can afford. Cell phone companies are prospering while the customer is stuck in a contract that they no longer want or can afford.
The worst of this deal is that if the customer stops paying the monthly cell phone bill, then the customer has to worry about the cell phone company reporting the non-payment of the bill to the credit reporting agencies making a negative mark on the customers' credit score. One other problem the customer will have with not paying the monthly bill is the remaining time on the contract still has to be paid. For instance, John Doe stops paying the monthly cell phone bill and the cell phone company suspends John Does' cell phone service. John Doe thinks he is free and clear; however, because he is on contract the remaining time on the contract accumulates even though the cell phone company suspended John Does' cell phone service creating a larger financial debt for John Doe.
Lets put a stop to these outrageous, costly early termination fees. If a customer no longer wants or can afford a cell phone, the customer should have a right to terminate the contract early without any early termination fees. Please sign this petition that will be forwarded to our U.S. Congress to ban cell phone companies from charging these early termination fees.
