Unlimited Broadband?, Stop with the lies!

Unlimited Downloads, Unlimited Connection...etc
In reality, many of the broadband services are not actually unlimited at all.


In the United Kingdom it is Estimated that there are 35,000,000 (35 Million) people with internet access, that's a staggering 57.2\% of United Kingdom's population.

uSwitch found that 6.2 (around 20\% of total users) million broadband users in the United Kingdom wrongly believe they have an Unlimited broadband service, further more they found 7.5 million don't even know

what there limit is. (around 25\% of total users)

That's 13.7 million (around 45\% of broadband users) confused customers and has led to almost 1 million consumers nearly reaching, or exceeding, their limit in the past 12 months. In other words, they are

running the risk - unknowingly - of having their services limited, suspended or even terminated by their provider


The solution is simple and would mean happy unconfused customers, broadband companies should not be allowed to class their packages as unlimited if they are not. Providers are confusing consumers to the

extent that broadband users do not even know if they are exceeding a user limit.


Many of the Internet Services providers run what they call "fair use policies"
If you read the small print at the bottom of the page, you normally find a message with something along the lines of: "Subject to a fair use policy"

It can be quite hard to find information on there fair usage policy sometimes, 8 of the 10 broadband company's I looked into had there fair usage policy on a totally different page, in there "t's & c's" or

"Terms and Conditions" page

Here are a few examples of some ISP's fair usage polices:

*'Only customers downloading well in excess of 100GB a month are likely to be impacted by the Fair Usage Policy. '
*'very heavy users may have their usage restricted at peak times'
*'speed limiting restrictions may be applied within peak hours, or exceeding fair usage policy can lead to suspension of service'
*'Extremely heavy users will have bandwidth restricted during peak hours. After 3 email warnings, bandwidth will be managed during peak hours'
*'Unlimited during all hours. If usage is deemed detrimental to others, a letter or email will be sent.'




If you want Ofcom and the ASA to step in and stop allowing providers to advertise and offer unlimited services, what clearly are not "unlimited" then PLEASE add your name to this petition
