When Commerce Secretary nominee Governor Bill Richardson announced that he was withdrawing his nomination, the position of Secretary-designate was thrown open again. Of special interest to Indian-Americans: according to several reports, Pepsico Chairperson Indra Nooyi was on the shortlist of candidates for the job of Commerce Secretary.
USINPAC is recommending to the Obama transition team that Indra Nooyi be considered for the position of Secretary of Commerce. Further, we hope that, if she is approached, Ms. Nooyi will consider the post.
In this currently tough economic climate, her global vision, leadership and ideas would be exactly what President Obama would need for a position that he has called the 'leading economic diplomat for America'.
We stand firm in the belief that she is the best candidate for the position, since her resume as a captain of industry and her work in the community speaks for itself.
A synopsis of her resume:
She joined PepsiCo in 1994, and was named president and CFO in 2001. On August 14, 2006, she was named the CEO of PepsiCo, becoming the fifth CEO in PepsiCo's 42-year history
According to BusinessWeek, while she was CFO of Pepsi, the company's annual revenues rose by 72\%, while net profit more than doubled, to $5.6 billion in 2006
Forbes magazine named her as the #3 most powerful woman in 2008
With these impeccable credentials (http://tinyurl.com/Ms-Indra-Nooyi has more details), we earnestly believe that Indra Nooyi would be the best choice for Secretary of Commerce. We urge you to sign this petition which will be submitted to the Obama Transition team in the next 48 hours to show them the broad based support she enjoys and to urge Indra Nooyi to consider this position.
