The National Sex Offender Registry has been active in Canada since December 15, 2004. This registry was designed to assist the police in the investigation of crimes of a sexual nature. To this date, the registry has yet to help solve a single crime. The information that is included in the registry is essentially the same information that would be privy to RCMP in ViCLAS and/or parole.
The National Sex OffenderRegistry gives a false sense of security to the public, as well isolates those who are on the registry by defining them all as molesters and predators. Not only does the registry not do what it was intended for the protection of society, but it also gives offenders less of a chance of rehabilitation.
We are petitioning that the Canadian National Sex Offender Registry be abolished due to its ineffectiveness, redundancy, and added restrictions that impede an offenders ability to rehabilitate and reintegrate as a contributing member of society.
