What We Believe In

First off, we would like to thank you for your amazing books. Harry Potter has evolved to be a huge phenomenon, and has touched a part of many of our lives.
This petition is not to convince you to write your novels in a way different then you have already planned. It is also not to tell you that we hate you, your characters or the choices you have made.
We are a group of human beings who believe in love forming from friendship. Above everything else we believe that love stems from trust, patience, kindness and loyalty. We believe in emotional connection rather then physical attraction, and that tension does not equal a happy relationship.
We are fans of both Hermione Granger and Harry Potter in your series. We love these characters separately, as well as together. We feel the potential love between these two people could have conquered Voldemort, and made your series truly spectacular. We do not hate Ron more then any other ship does. You would be mis-spoken to say that any of us dislike Ron, specifically because we do want Harry and Hermione to be together romantically, so please do not think ill of us.
We have an amazing fan base online; some of us have been fans for over 3 years, others have just joined recently. What binds us together is that we all feel that underneath the surface of your novels, underneath the pages is the potential for a wonderful relationship. We have felt hints towards this pair, not only in the Goblet of Fire, but also in the Order of the Phoenix. Many essays have been written regarding how this couple has been hinted in your novels, and how they are meant to be together. Many articles of art have been made in honour of this couple. Many stories have been written, inspired solely by your writing and the romance between these two people.
We simply ask that you do not push us aside and think us any less then other "shippers". Your comments in the recent interview with Muggle Net and The Leaky Cauldron has not only squashed our hope of Harry and Hermione ever being together in your novels, but has also upset many readers. We do not consider ourselves to be delusional, and just because we choose to interpret your novels differently then others, does not make us delusional. We are not saying that you called us delusional, but we wish you would have put more of a stop to the questionnaire saying such rude things, and not laughed along with him. We also wish that you hadn't used such condescending tone when regarding the Harry/Hermione fans in the interview, saying you left "anvil sized hints" and that you had made it more then obvious that Ron and Hermione were supposed to be together. By saying this you made us, Harry and Hermione fans feel both stupid and ignorant for interpreting the novels in our own way. Please do not ask us to read the books again. We have read them many times, perhaps too often, causing us to see clues where they do not exist. Just because we misinterpreted your words and your vision for the series is no need to tell us to do such a thing.
We still love your writing, and we still love your novels. Above all we are Harry Potter fans first. However, you must imagine that a great number of fans were both upset and offended by what you said. All we ask is that you tell us why you do not see the potential for Harry and Hermione to be together, and perhaps issue a public apology on your web site. This would help us feel less pushed to the side and made fun of, which is how we felt after this recent interview.
Thank you for your time, and for reading these words, and above all, thank you for writing Harry Potter.
