On November 19, 1863, in the Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln spoke these words: a government of the people, by the people, for the people............ Our government no longer abides by these principals which so many Americans gave their lives for during the Civil War. We are now a nation controlled by special interest groups, through the lobbyists, and multi-millionaire politicians whos only concern is lining their own pockets. The common people no longer have any say in the making of the policies or laws of this country. The political profiteering needs to stop and the voice of the people needs to be heard!
As a mother of a U.S. Marine Corps aviator, wife of an ex-Marine and concerned citizen, I feel that it is time that we have our voices heard in Washington. Overwhelming, the polls show that the majority of citizens want our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Too many of our sons, daughters, husbands, wives, brothers and sisters are dying for what is now apparently a lost cause. I supported the initial operation of removing Saddam Hussein from power as he himself can be described as a weapon of mass destruction, being responsible for millions of deaths. The civil war in Iraq is now out of control. We accomplished our mission there. We removed Saddam, established open elections and oversaw the installation of a democratically elected government. It is time that we insist the people of Iraq take control of their own country and destiny. The civil wars in the middle east have been raging for thousands of years. The arrogance of the U.S. government to think that they can put an end to this, is outrageous!
If We the People bond together in one unified voice, then maybe we can be heard and impose our will on our government. Therefore, my writing of this petition. There are approximately 250,000,000 people, over the age of 18 in the United States, eligible to vote. Since our votes no longer seem to count, at least, our voices will be heard. If I can get a clear majority of these people to sign my petition, I will do everything in my power to see that the petition will be presented to our representatives in Washington.
Simply stated, we are demanding that our troops be immediately, totally and unconditionally withdrawn from Iraq and Afganistan (the forgotten war).
