The prosecutor in her case, Jim Appleman, has publicly stated he had wished he could go for the death penalty for Rebecca when he brought her to trial. This is a miscarriage of justice. What do we teach our children by punishing them for coming forward with a crime they may have witnessed? What child would dare admit they saw anything knowing they could spend the rest of their own life behind bars just for telling the truth?
We stand up for these children and will now present this petition to the Governor of Florida and the Clemency board in hopes they will have the compassion that any human being should have. Rebecca does not deserve to spend an eternity behind the high walls of a prison where adults are kept. This girl should never have been convicted from the beginning, but she was. Rebecca had never been in any trouble before this, but that was never taken into account. During the trial it was also never considered that Rebecca came forward and told the police everything except the name of the killer the morning after the crime was committed. No evidence was found that even remotely linked her to the crime and the only way police got her name was the fact that she had come forward. No guilty person would ever have done that. And now it is up to the decent people of this country to show these officials how we feel and why she deserves to be set free.
Rebecca Falcon deserves a future. She deserves a future outside the bars of the cell she has called home for the last 5 years. WE THE PEOPLE now approach those who have the power to set her free and give her that chance. We hope and pray that those same people will offer her the life she should have.
Please join in and sign this petition. It will be presented to the Governor and the Clemency board when the case for clemency comes before them. Thank you.
