Who is DotConnectAfrica (DCA)?

DCA is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organization, which will sponsor, establish and operate a top level domain (TLD) registry, with global recognition and regional significance, dedicated to the needs of the Pan-African and African community. DCA is inspired to come to fruition to coordinate the implementation of the .Africa (dotAfrica) initiative. At the same time, to address the lack of adequate internet policy in Africa and acknowledgment of the impact of the policy in widening the gaps of the digital divide. DCA seeks to assist in the strategic coordination of government internet policies, establish policy priorities, offer new policy choices, and ensure that the implications of internet policy options are fully considered.

The dotAfrica initiative is a continental domain name that will assist in branding Africas products and services. The .Africa (dotAfrica) domain aspires to embrace Africas dynamism to become a nucleus, intersection and breeding ground for Internet activity and development in the continent.

Accomplishments of DCA

Sponsorship - DCA was one of ICANN event sponsors, the first African TLD to sponsor an ICANN International conference, which allowed it to also promote the work it has done in Africa for the "Africa" TLD to the international community.
Presenting an African common position for ICANN support for new gTLDs - DCA also sponsored a delegation from Africa to shape the policy debate, in support of the community based gTLD initiatives.
