Many people in Syria and Yemen risk their lives and are often killed in the process of documenting human rights violations which they upload to youtube which then users forward to media and human rights organizations to bring attention to this to the press. In Syria and many conflict areas these videos are often the only evidence of repression. These videos that human rights watch used to compile their report on human rights violations in Syria is the sort of thing, you youtube, are removing.
Please update your shocking and disgusting content policies for the new realities of the Arab spring.
Hamza's video in Syria was removed as well as Yemeni warcrimes in Taiz May 29/30 and this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpB4hbPz2ZM&feature=youtu.be
Please youtube stop letting human rights offenders getting away with crimes against humanity by removing content for labeling it "shocking and disgusting"
We recommend that youtube creates a special "human rights documentation" tag where if content is a record of a human rights violation or a crime that has not made it to court that minors should not see. We are not in support of gratuitous violent imagery that is not documenting a conflict, and agree with the rest of the policy. However removing evidence of war crimes because they are "shocking" and "disgusting" enables them to occur. Lives can be saved with early intervention, and that would only happen if the images are released.
